About us...
Young Child Academy began operating in 2001 as a tiny program, housing just one toddler room and one preschool classroom. Only a handful of students encompassed this inaugural group including founder, Tracy White's, daughter.
Tracy White earned her BA in Education from Seattle University and subsequently went on to pursue her MA in Education several years later. While she focused on special education in her undergraduate coursework, for her graduate program, Tracy primarily studied early childhood education. After graduating, she used her education and skill set to establish Young Child Academy.
From the onset, Young Child Academy set out to provide the best early childhood education program possible. Focusing on developmentally appropriate practices, the school established as it's foundation: Literature and the Arts, and maintained the belief that these two components, were critical to strong growth in the early years. Rooms were filled with books, quality literature for the children to enjoy and explore. Unique weekly classes included those taught by dance and drama specialists as well as highly skilled musicians.
Young Child Academy continues to house tremendous children's literature, and still offers exceptional enrichment classes, but Young Child Academy also now incorporates progressive thematic units, allowing the young students to utilize investigative skills as part of their learning processes.
Young Child Academy's growth over the years is visible in the constantly transforming facility. Previously located in lower Queen Anne in an eclectic, brick structure and now in Greenwood neighborhood, Young Child Academy enjoys close proximity to an urban enclave in a diverse and enriching neighborhood. Now a school with one infant room, two toddler rooms, two preschool classes, one prekindergarten program, Young Child Academy addresses the developmental and educational needs of over 80 children.
Currently, several outstanding individuals ensure the continuing high quality of the program.
Chia-Pei Cheng, Young Child Academy's Director, holds a MA in Early Childhood Education. HaeLim Jun, Assistant Director, has a BA degree in Childhood Studies and has many years of preschool teaching experience at YCA. Together, these individuals, run an exemplary program, providing children 5 months through 6 years, a tremendous growth and educational experience.
