    Medication Management


    Young Child Academy Policy
    June 1, 2001

    Young Child Academy will only administer medication, both prescription and nonprescription, with prior written consent from the parent or legal guardian. A record will be kept of medicine disbursed.

    Prescription Medications must be in the original container from the pharmacy and labeled with:

  • Child's name, both first and last, and middle initial if necessary


  • Medication name


  • Dosage amount


  • Frequency


  • Length of time (number of days)


  • Prescription medications may only be given as specified on the prescription label or, as authorized in writing, by the child's physician.

    Nonprescription Medications will only be given when:

  • The medication is in its original container


  • When the dose and frequency is stated on the label


  • The medication is age appropriate for the child

  • Nonprescription medications include:


    *Antihistamines

    *Non aspirin fever reducers/pain relievers

    *Non narcotic cough suppressants

    *Decongestants

    *Anti-itching ointments/lotions intended to relieve itching

    *Diaper ointments intended for use with "diaper rash"

    *Sunscreen

    *Vitamins

    Medications shall be stored in an orderly fashion, inaccessible to the child. External medication shall be stored separately from internal medication.

    Any unused medication shall be returned to the parent for proper disposal.
