    Medical Emergencies

    Young Child Academy Policy
    June 1, 2001

In the event of a life threatening emergency to a child in our care, Young Child Academy staff will take the following actions:

    1) One staff member will stay with the child and, if necessary, provide first aid according to the recommendations of the American Red Cross or American Academy of Pediatrics.

    2) The child's teacher, or designated staff, will contact the Emergency Medical System (911) and will give them the following information:

  • description of the situation

  • the physical location of the emergency

  • the schools phone number

  • The staff member will stay on the line until told to hang-up. The staff member will contact the parent. If the parent cannot be reached, the child's emergency contact person will be notified.

Emergency transportation for any necessary medical care will be determined by the emergency response team and/or parent. A staff member from Young Child Academy will go with and remain with the child until a parent arrives.

The child's teacher or staff member will complete an injury/illness report. This report form will be signed by the parent. A copy will be given to the parent and a copy will be kept on file at the school.
